2 900,00 $
This solid teak Rustic Indian Late 19th-Century Early 20th-Century Pair of Doors presents a monumental verticality, each leaf configured as a rectangular volume culminating in a subtle arched top edge. The architectural language reflects traditional Indian craftsmanship, expressing a robust and unadorned structural presence. Solid wood forms the primary mass, articulating a clear, symmetrical threshold.
The surface of each leaf is punctuated by shallow hand-carved geometric motifs, arranged in a repetitive rhythm that emphasizes verticality. These carvings, executed with traditional chiseling techniques, exhibit variations in depth and contour, providing a tactile surface. Original metal hardware, including substantial hinges and a central latch mechanism, shows evidence of hand-forging with an oxidized patina. Areas of the open-pore teak grain exhibit surface abrasion, particularly along the vertical edges and lower sections, consistent with frequent interaction, resulting in a rich, non-uniform darkening.
The imposing scale of the pair defines a significant portal, casting deep, articulated shadows across its carved surfaces under direct illumination. Its substantial mass provides a visual anchor within an architectural space, capable of establishing a distinct transition point. The textured wood surface contrasts effectively against smooth plaster or minimalist concrete, while its inherent material depth offers a counterpoint to cooler, industrial finishes.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
